Dating-ish by Penny Reid

Rating: 5/5 stars

Summary: Marie is just about to delete her online dating profile when she sees a new match. The perfect match. Derek. She sets up a date hoping for the best, but is spectacularly disappointed at the person who walks through the door. He’s different than his picture and is more than bizarre. So you can imagine her surprise when she is introduced later to the same man as Matt, not Derek. And to top it all off, he then tells her the date was only for research. How demeaning, right? Well, what does Marie do? She dives right in and gets to know him of course!

My Thoughts: It feels like I waited forever to read this, and by the time it showed up on my kindle, my hopes and expectations were through the roof. But thank god for Penny Reid. She sucks you in, keeps you invested, and makes you feel for all the characters.

First off, if possible, I loved the dynamic of the knitting group even more in this book. They’re all so silly and interesting, and I love how much they care for each other.

On to the main plot, though, the romance between Marie and Matt was lovely, sometimes heartbreaking, but ultimately gratifying. I felt for their situation. It was honestly really relatable. I could see how some might be annoyed by the misunderstandings, but I think a lot of this story is about Marie and (especially) Matt realizing they’re causing their own misery. And that’s what’s relatable. A person’s insecurities interfering with their happiness. We accept the love we think we deserve. So it’s satisfying when they are able to overcome that.

So read this if you love Penny Reid or romance or a story about relationships. This series just keeps getting better, and I can’t wait for the final book!

P.S. Love the glimpses of Kat and Dan’s story!!
